You may ask yourself why would I want a hood that looks just like my stock one but out of fiberglass? The quick answer is weight. Not that a fiberglass hood is going to turn your 5000lb truck into a race car, but meaning the damage that an excessively heavy stock hood would do when off-roading your bronco or F-series truck hard. We’ve seen a ton of failures in the factory sheet metal firewalls and core supports mainly due to the weight of the stock hood. These new fiberglass hoods were a collaboration effort between Desolate Motorsports and manufacturer McNeil Racing. Molds were made off stock steel hoods to insure the perfect factory fit. When designing these hoods we took everything we have liked and disliked about other fiberglass hoods over the years and built these so they check all the boxes! Factory like fitment, a fully molded inner structure for strength, and the bottom can be paint color matched. Lastly, the treaded studs for attachment to factory hinges for ease of install, and most importantly, Light weight
This hood utilizes your stock rear hood hinges, but removal of the factory latch is required. You must install two hood pins to keep hood latched down. The factory latch is another common failure point. We offer our Desolate Motorsports hood pin mounting kit for a pain free install. These pin mounting brackets grasp multiple areas of the factory core support to spread the load out over a larger surface area. This insures the mounting pins will stay intact forever with out tearing the sheet metal. These brackets attach to the core support with nut inserts so if you do not have a nutsert tool please purchase on on the drop down when you order your hood
Note: Due to variances in vehicles, When installing the hood pin mounting kit it is the installers responsibility to mark the location and physically install the hood pin grommets into the hood. A hole saw is required to do this. We include a small tool that is used to mark the location in the bottom of the hood and you can see the process on this YouTube install video.
