This kit is a must if you have installed or plan on installing any type of limited slip or locker in your TTB front axle. From factory, the stub axle is held with a c-clip in an open differential. This c-clip is no longer there to hold the axle when a locker replaces your factory diff. This kit holds tension on the inner axle keeping it engaged in the spline and seated properly in the diff. Additionally, the collar and long spring add a degree of adjustment to how much or little the tension is depending on the position the collar is mounted on the axle shaft.

Note: All D44 front differentials with lockers ordered from Desolate Motorsports will include this kit.

Spring and collar kit - easy and effective

The spring and collar kit was the perfect work around for traction device in the Dana 44 differential. Because the passenger side retainer clip cannot be installed, this kit creates the pressure to keep the stub shaft fully seated in the traction device (in my case, a Eaton Detroit Trutrac). I order a replacement rubber sleeve at the same time. It had a smaller overall diameter than the stock sleeve and I was able to put the spring over the sleeve, with the bellows of the sleeve fitting in between the spring coils. It was a challenge to get the spring over the rubber sleeve (had to basically hold it in half to pass through the center of the spring), but in the end it worked and I don't have to worry about dust and dirt getting into the slip collar. Great solution that required no welding of end caps and no drop-in shotty spring in the joint.
